Parent Student Online Handbook:
Anti-Bullying Policy

Decades of research have firmly established that
bullying indicates a serious behavioral problem. Even
worse, studies have shown bullying can have a lifelong
negative impact on the victim. This is why a response
by school officials and parents must be quick and clear.
The victim must be protected. And the bully must
be counseled and disciplined.

We ascribe to the United States Department of
Education’s definition of bullying as unprovoked,
repeated hurtful acts where a real or perceived
imbalance in power exists.

Any allegation of bullying at Saint Isaac Jogues –
physical, verbal or sexual in nature – will be thoroughly
investigated and dealt with promptly.

We’ve established a set of specific procedures and
disciplinary steps:

Once an allegation is received, school officials
investigate and meet separately with all parties or
witnesses.

A detailed report is filed.

Parents are contacted to discuss the incident.

Consequences of a first incident may range from
verbal warning to detention or suspension, depending
on the severity of the incident.

If bullying continues, consequences will quickly
become more severe. A written plan will be developed
– to include levels of discipline and specific, positive
steps to correct this behavior. School officials will
meet formally with parents.

Ultimately, when bullying persists, school officials
will meet with the pastor to determine the offending
child’s enrollment status.
