SIJ Girls Basketball:
Grades 5 through 8

Fifth grade basketball for girls is a developmental
program to teach fundamentals of the game, basic skills,
teamwork and sportsmanship. Depending on turnout,
fifth grade teams are divided equally into peer squads.

Fifth grade practices are once a week, beginning in
January. Games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In sixth, seventh and eighth grades, basketball teams
are divided into one A-Team and as many B squads as
needed to give everyone an opportunity to play. The
goal is to divide B-Teams equally by talent.

The Athletic Director will seek parent volunteers to
coach B Teams.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade basketball for girls begins with tryouts
early in January. Practices are twice a week.

Seventh and Eighth Grades

Tryouts for upper-grade level girls’ basketball begin
in October. Practices are twice a week.

The goal of our athletic program is to provide our
students with learning opportunities that can be found
in few other venues of life. We believe that healthy
athletic competition and high moral standards
complement each other. At Saint Isaac Jogues, positive
teamwork and Christian sportsmanship go
hand-in-glove.

Participation in athletic activities is a privilege, not
a right. Student-athletes are expected to abide by the
school’s code of conduct. Moreover, student-athletes
must meet the school’s Academic Standards for
Athletic Participation.
