Music Education:

Music education at an early age provides every child
a wellspring of life-enhancing benefits. This is why
we teach music in all grades. Students learn
theory and fundamentals, how to read sheet music,
and how to play an instrument (a recorder or other
instrument). In later grades, our students participate
in the rehearsal and performance of liturgical or
secular songs.

Kindergarten-Plus through fourth-grade students attend
music class every other week. Half-day kindergarten and
grades five through eight attend every other quarter.

In fifth through eighth grades, music and art
classes alternate so that every upper-grade level student
receives half an academic year in each subject.

Students with above-average musical talent in grades
4-8 are encouraged to join the school band for more
advanced performance instruction.

Methods of instruction include individual focus,
smaller groups and total class involvement, at the
teacher’s discretion, based on subject matter and
classes. In this way we can employ the most
effective methods – as needed – for the intellectual,
emotional and social advancement of all our students.

As much as possible, we strive for each Saint Isaac
Jogues student to work at his or her level of ability.
To promote positive self-image, we encourage children
to compete only with themselves in their class work,
as well as other areas.

In other words, don’t compare – simply do your
personal best.
