St. Isaac Jogues School Library Media Center (LMC) provides a foundation for lifelong learning, which equips students to become independent and effective users of information in all formats. This mission is accomplished by:
- Providing physical and intellectual access to an organized collection of print and non-print resources both in and outside the school.Providing instruction to foster competence in the location, selection, utilization and evaluation of resources and to stimulate interest in reading, viewing and using information.
- Working with other teachers to develop curriculum, instructional units and to design learning strategies that meet the needs of individual students and are an integral part of the school curriculum.
Students in grades kindergarten through sixth attend regularly scheduled information literacy classes in our library. They also visit on a flexibly scheduled basis incorporated in their daily classroom experience. Use of the learning resources available in the library are integrated into the school’s educational program and are accessible throughout the school day. Librarians in cooperation with the teachers design units and learning opportunities utilizing both print and non-print media to augment their curriculum. Junior high students participate in our junior high research program. A research project is assigned every quarter from one of the core subject areas: language arts, literature, math, religion, science, or social studies. Students are taught important issues facing users in the 21st century and exhibit ethical behavior in their use of technology.
