The Parish Pastoral Council, in collaboration with the pastor, assumes the overall well-being of the parish, present and future, through strategic planning and proposing practical solutions to the ongoing life of the parish. Members are committed to the parish as a whole, are willing to serve for three years, are able to attend monthly council meetings, and can work collaboratively with each other and the pastor.
Details and Mission
The purpose of parish councils, as outlined by the Joliet Diocese, is to help discern the needs of the parish and the community and to set goals and priorities to meet these needs. It is the responsibility of parish councils to be a living sign of the partnership of faith that every Christian community is called to be, by promoting unity in the parish and encouraging all its diverse members to work together for the good of all.
The stated mission of the SIJ Parish Council is to "invite, inspire, include and ignite" our parishioners in their faith journeys here at St. Isaac Jogues and to help create an atmosphere where all can worship joyfully together. As Paul wrote to the Romans, "though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body."
The Council members include the pastors, a parish staff member, six “at large” members (parishioners drawn from the parish at large and not affiliated with any commissions) and a representative from each of the major parish commissions. These seven commissions are: Administration and Planning, Christian Service, Parish Life, Religious Education, School, Worship and Youth.
The 2004-2005 St. Isaac Jogues Parish Council regularly scheduled meetings are held on the last Monday night of every month (except December, June and July). The meetings are usually held in the Fireplace Room at the Parish Center and are always open to all parishioners.
